Staying in Balance an Ayurvedic Approach
Know thyself. A big part of knowing how to take care of ourselves is understanding our basic natures. The Indian science of Ayurveda explains that there are three doshas, a kind of life force, called Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Every individual has a unique balance of each dosha that determines their baseline constitution. It is believed that sickness and stress are a result of doshas that have been thrown off balance for a variety of reasons, including weather changes, emotional upheaval or poor diet.
Ayurvedic practice aims to balance the doshas through the adjustment of lifestyle routines. People who are Vata dominant are particularly sensitive to change, weather and stress and are thus particularly vulnerable this time of year. However, this season can affect everyone and it helps to know yourself and what measures can be taken to make you optimally healthy and happy.
